Get Free of Economic Doom and Gloom

There is the situation, like the ‘economy’, and then there is what you tell yourself about it. As far as your own resilience, creativity and ability to find solutions is concerned, it is the stories that you tell yourself that helps or hinders you, not the situation itself.

Improvisers make Choices - do You

One of the key skills an improviser uses, on or off stage is their awareness of their own thinking. They know how to be in-the-moment. This being in the moment is not a ‘just follow every thought at random’ state of being, it is a state of complete and total alertness.

A Willingness to do Something Different

After a team workshop I recently delivered, the manager of the team said to me "those we're really good action steps, but I don't thing anyone will do them". I was stunned. We spent a whole day figuring out what they could do to achieve the goals they set out for themselves (not my goals, but their goals - this was pure facilitation) and they won't do them?

Improvisation builds Confidence

Taking an improv course or having professionals come directly to your company builds confidence. The people I know who have taken improvisational theatre or comedy courses have a new found confidence in front of others. They don't take mistakes that seriously and have found the ability to move on sooner.

Internal Customers

A client of !mprov at work's wants to emphasize the point that internal customers are just as important as the end customer. Consider how someone's output is always someone else's input. The work that you get came from someone else in your organization, or perhaps from a group or team that your organization is partnering with. You are the internal customer for this person or group. You transform that work, add value to it and it (your output) becomes someone else's input. This someone else is your internal customer.

Talking Change

Let’s talk a little about change. Don’t make a big deal out of change. It’s happening all the time anyway. Most of the business of change is attitudinal. First, give yourself permission to adapt. So you didn’t do it right. So what? You learn your lessons and you move on. See change as important but not serious. Don’t make change into a personal issue or problem. If you can do something about something than do that. If you cannot do something now, don’t make it into a problem.
