More and more employees are attending courses designed to shake them out of the traditional way of doing things by learning how to think on their feet. You might say the engineers at Bombardier Inc. were grounded. Team after team had tried to fix a Lear Jet component that was causing trouble on the production line. And team after team had failed. Then two engineers - a senior staffer teamed with a younger colleague just out of school - were handed the project after taking a course in improvisational comedy. Almost immediately the duo came up with a solution that resulted in big savings for the Montreal-based transportation giant. And Bombardier credits the two-day course on how improv applies to business for the breakthrough. The company has since put several more groups of employees through the program. "It's the most unusual course we have ever given here but we also find it to be very productive", says Sig Schrattner, a senior principal involved with training at Bombardier. The course, offered by actor and playwright Michael Rosenberg, is designed to shake employees out of the traditional way of doing things by learning how to think on their feet like improv comedians. There are no comments attached to this item.
